CHINA and Portugal at Macao. Further telegrams from Lisbon of the 9th January, expressing the dissatisfaction of Portuguese Government with the following demands advanced by China, have been communicated by Portuguese Minister.
1. For the stoppage of a small cruiser which is being dispatched to Macao.
2. For the immediate nomination of other Portuguese Delegates to replace those already appointed for the delimitation.
3. For the appointment of a day, which Portuguese Consul at Canton shall be instructed to name, for dealing with the Fatshan incident in union with the Chinese authorities.
It is reported that Portuguese Chargé d'Affaires has stated that you now shared his opinion that the situation is "very grave.”
On date of your telegram No. 4 were you cognizant of above-mentioned facts, and, if not, do they modify the opinion you expressed therein?
